Copy text off the screen, recognized on this Mac.
Select a region and the recognized text lands on your clipboard. Recognition runs here through Apple's Vision framework and detects the language itself. No image is sent anywhere to be turned into text.
HOW TO

Press Control Shift 0, or pick Copy text from screen in the menu bar popover. Copy text from screen can take a hotkey of your own.

Drag a region, as you would for an area capture. A click without a drag copies nothing: over a window it closes the overlay, elsewhere the overlay stays open. Escape cancels.

After recognition, Gamendori offers the text to the clipboard in reading order, top to bottom and left to right as it sits on the screen. If a newer copy was asked for or the clipboard changed during recognition, it stands aside. Nothing is saved to the Desktop: the result is text, not a file.
WHAT RECOGNITION IS
Recognition runs here through Apple's Vision framework, at its accurate level, and detects the language itself. No image is sent anywhere to be turned into text.
Language correction is off, so a code, a key, or a name is not rewritten into a dictionary word. Recognition can still misread a character; check what you paste.
Gamendori writes only after recognition ends, and only if this is still the latest copy and the clipboard has not changed since recognition began. Otherwise it stands aside, though no check can stop another app writing at the same instant.
