COMPARED

Gamendori against CleanShot X, Shottr and Xnapper.

Prices and features were read from each vendor's own pages on and are linked at the end. Gamendori's column is read from its source, and the rows where it is behind are on this page too, because a comparison that hides them is advertising.

macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon and Intel.

WHAT FIVE YEARS COST

Each figure is the licence plus every yearly renewal, so that updates keep coming. Where a renewal is optional the note says what stops without it.

GAMENDORI
YEAR 1
$30
YEAR 3
$30
YEAR 5
$30

$30 once. Updates for life, so the figure never moves.

CLEANSHOT X
YEAR 1
$35
YEAR 3
$73
YEAR 5
$111

$35 with a year of updates, then $19 a year for more. It keeps running without a renewal; its updates stop.

SHOTTR
YEAR 1
$12
YEAR 3
$12
YEAR 5
$12

Free, with a reminder after 30 days. $12 once is required for commercial use, for one user on up to five Macs. Updates are not described.

XNAPPER
YEAR 1
$29.99
YEAR 3
$65.97
YEAR 5
$101.95

$29.99 for one Mac with a year of updates, then 40 percent off to renew, taken as $17.99 here. It keeps running without a renewal; its updates stop.

WHAT BUYERS PAY FOR

In reviews, buyers of these tools say they pay for scrolling capture, the moment after the capture, annotation, and the time styling saves. Those rows come first. A cell reading "not named" means the vendor's own page does not mention it, not that the app lacks it.

GAMENDORICLEANSHOT XSHOTTRXNAPPER
SCROLLING
A window scrolled for you, down and then up from where it sat if there was nothing below, with the seams checked against the page and a verdict in the support log saying how much was proven.
Vertical and horizontal, in any app.
Vertical, up to 200,000 pixels.
Not named on its site.
AFTER THE CAPTURE
The file is saved and copied the moment you take it, then a corner card offers copy, edit, pin, or the file by drag. The editor opens only if you ask.
A Quick Access Overlay in the corner: view, annotate, save, copy, drag.
Its editor, or Preview if you choose that in its settings.
Its editor, with a background applied automatically.
ANNOTATION
Arrow, box, text, numbered markers, pen, highlight, ellipse, line, spotlight, magnifier, measure, crop and redact, every mark an editable layer. The magnifier shows the capture at twice its size, with redactions applied and other marks left out.
Thirteen tools, including ellipse, line, filled rectangle, spotlight, counter and pixelate.
Spotlight, a magnifier callout, a step counter, arrows that bend, pixelate, object removal.
Arrows, shapes and text.
SENSITIVE CONTENT
A scan on this Mac helps you catch emails, phone numbers, cards, keys, faces and codes. Each finding is yours to accept. A redaction is an opaque plate, and the export refuses when a plate cannot be proven.
No detection named on its site. Pixelate by hand.
No detection named on its site. Pixelate or remove objects by hand.
Finds emails, cards, IP addresses and API keys; one click covers them.
MEASURE AND COLOR
A ruler in points from an anchor, a hard-grid loupe that counts pixels, the color under the cursor as hex. Enter copies the values.
Not named on its features page.
A screen ruler, a color picker and a contrast checker.
Not named on its site.
RECORDING
An H.264 movie at up to 60 frames per second with the cursor, or a looping GIF made from it. No audio yet.
Microphone and computer audio, the camera, GIF, and a video editor with zooms.
None.
Not named on its site.
STYLING
A frame in one of six flat fills, applied to everything you copy, export or drag out of the editor, and a window capture with its shadow or without. No gradients or images.
Twenty backgrounds plus your own, padding, a transparent mode, the window shadow on or off.
Gradient backgrounds, shadow and rounded corners.
Its whole pitch: an automatic background and balance, your own gradient or image, social sizes and ratios.
FILES
Still captures as PNG, JPEG or HEIC, and WebP where the Mac encodes it, at screen resolution or 1x; scrolling captures stay PNG at screen resolution; both named by your own template with the date, time, app, kind and size, in your capture folder.
Recordings as MP4 or GIF with adjustable quality, frame rate and resolution. Still image formats are not named on its features page.
PNG, or JPEG when the capture is graphic heavy.
Compressed output, social sizes and ratios.
CLOUD
None, by design. Gamendori sends no capture anywhere.
One click to CleanShot Cloud.
Your own S3-compatible storage, or its upload feature once you activate it.
Coming soon, per its site.
TIMER
Three, five or ten seconds.
A self-timer.
Three seconds.
Not named on its site.
LICENCE
$30 once, updates for life, and a 30 day trial that never gates capture.
$35 once with a year of updates, then $19 a year if you want more. No trial; a 30 day refund.
Free with a reminder after 30 days; $12 once for commercial use, up to five Macs.
$29.99 once for one Mac with a year of updates; renewals at 40 percent off. A 30 day refund.

WHERE GAMENDORI IS BEHIND

As of version 1.5. When one of these ships, its line leaves this page in the same release, not before.

WHAT SETS GAMENDORI APART

Each is read from the app source, and none of the three vendor pages below names the same. A page's silence says nothing about the app behind it, so this is the whole claim.

A VERDICT

A scrolling capture logs a verdict on what it captured: verified complete (AX-corroborated), best effort or partial. Only the first is earned by proof in the pixels, and a partial capture raises an alert.

EXPORT REFUSES

A redaction that cannot be proven opaque in the exported pixels stops the export, so the file never carries a cover the app could not prove.

KEYS

The scan knows the shapes of AWS, GitHub and Slack tokens and of JWTs, beside emails, phone numbers, cards, faces and codes.

NO TELEMETRY

No analytics framework is linked. Checking for an update, downloading one and managing a license are the app's whole network use, and no capture is part of any of it.
